About This Quote

The enemies of your enemy are not your friends. One must know his enemy before he is able to defeat him. An example is the ancient Greek warrior Achilles. He was known as the “The Great.” Though he was the greatest warrior of all time, he had an Achilles’ heel; he was very prideful and quick to anger.

As a result, Achilles trusted no one and could not be controlled by those around him. He was a man who could never be trusted, but his trust in himself was so great that he never allowed anyone to destroy him. It is said that as long as Achilles felt himself strong enough to overcome his enemy, he would never give up fighting for supremacy.

When it came to war, Achilles became his own enemy and was killed by Hector of Troy during a battle at his namesake city of Troy.
